Fundación Ibercivis took part in the Ars Electronica Festival 2026, held in Linz (Austria) from 9 to 13 September.
During the festival, RIECS-Concept, a European project led by Ibercivis, coordinated a three-day programme of activities organised by the Serbian Centre for the Promotion of Science.
These activities combined open discussion sessions between the different profiles present — citizen scientists, technologists, artists, professionals and people from the education sector — and, under the theme “Future Begins” and the subtitle “Negotiating Humanity“, raised the question of what it means to be human in a context of accelerating technological change, a question that also runs through citizen science debates on the role of people in relation to tools such as artificial intelligence or sensors.
The gathering also brought together the partners of the RIECS-Concept consortium — a project coordinated by Ibercivis together with ECSA — to take stock of the project’s first phase and move forward on its final roadmap. This stocktaking showed a total of 50 events organised, 500 people involved, 5,000 technologies mapped, 37 needs identified and 600 services outlined. Fermín Serrano, RIECS-Concept coordinator at Ibercivis, highlighted the commitment and shared knowledge of everyone who took part in the sessions.
