EOValue

A European community on the use and value of Earth observation

About the project

EOValue was a three-year project (2018–2020), funded by Horizon 2020 and run by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) together with the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD).

It aimed to bring together a community of people interested in the use and value of Earth observation in Europe, seen as an essential part of the digital transformation, and to show the opportunities it offers for science, public policy and society.

The project supported the development of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) and, in particular, the EuroGEOSS initiative, which focuses on coordinating and scaling up applications developed in Europe based on users’ needs.

Project objectives

  • Support EuroGEOSS with a community space where its pilot applications, products and services could interact, gain visibility and grow.
  • Track the evolution of Europe’s ecosystem of geospatial companies and organisations to identify opportunities, synergies and obstacles to a European space data economy.
  • Strengthen Europe’s contribution to GEOSS by leading GEO working groups and initiatives and by testing EuroGEOSS interoperability with the global infrastructure.
  • Launch an open competition in 2019 for web and mobile apps based on EuroGEOSS and European open data, to broaden the Earth observation user base.
