DECIDO

eviDEnce and Cloud for more InformeD and effective pOlicies.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

DECIDO has provided storage capacity and processing power through the EGI infrastructure.

The mission of the DECIDO project has been to demonstrate the impact of adopting participatory methodologies, cloud tools and data analytics in effective policy development.
DECIDO has acted as an intermediary between the public sector, the world of citizen science and the European Cloud Infrastructure (ECI), through a direct collaboration with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

The project has tested DECIDO solutions in four cities/regions in Europe:
– Forest fires in Kajaani
– Floods and social crises after a pandemic in Italy
– Power outages in Greek municipalities, Greece;
– Forest fire management and prevention in the region of Aragon, Spain.

PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS

Project type: European

Duration: 2021 – 2024

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The project had several objectives: to facilitate public authorities the adoption of data and cloud technologies to support evidence-based policy; emerging strategic management to ensure that data contributes to evidence-based policy-making processes; to facilitate the active participation of local stakeholders in data generation; and to seek the sustained use of data analytics and cloud infrastructure in policy-making.

IBERCIVIS’ ROLE

Ibercivis’ role in DECIDO was to carry out the activities of the Aragon pilot. Co-creation workshops have been developed in which information and requirements have been collected from all stakeholders in our project, identifying the following target groups:
– Affected citizens: Citizens living in risk areas in Aragon.
– People who need to carry out controlled burns (e.g. farmers).
– Fire-fighting resources, to use the data for better fire-fighting management.
– Local authorities, to use the information provided by the pilot.
– General public, to be aware if they are near a risk area and/or a fire.

OUR ACTIVITIES

The Ibercivis Foundation co-organised the pilot activities of the project in the autonomous community of Aragon (Spain) in collaboration with Tecnalia (Basque Country), and was supported – under Ibercivis’ third party – by the Government of Aragon and its investee company Sarga.

Ibercivis developed tools and technologies for the early warning treatment of disasters through citizen participation.

The co-design of these tools was carried out through processes of citizen participation and the agents involved in emergencies. Once designed, these tools were made available to all in the European EOSC cloud.

In addition, Ibercivis actively participates in the communication and dissemination activities of the project and its results.
