About the project
Students learn by doing: they write news stories on science topics that interest them and interview scientists, sharing this content on social media.
AulaCheck is a media literacy and critical thinking project that teaches students how to communicate science and how to tell reliable, quality information from information that is not (hoaxes and fake news).
Students work together to create an online newspaper with news stories and debunked science hoaxes. The project has already reached 30 secondary schools across Spain (Years 10, 11 and 12; 3º and 4º ESO and 1º Bachillerato), with hundreds of students taking part. At a time of widespread disinformation, especially on social media, the project brings ideas such as sources and research methods into the classroom.
It is run in collaboration with FECYT, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology.
