On 24 September 2026, we attended the kick-off meeting for the European SLDAR, hosted in Cork by the Tyndall National Institute (University College Cork, Ireland).
During this international meeting, the seven consortium partners (Tyndall National Institute, ZEISS Group, CREAL, Aluvia Photonics, Dispelix, Institute of High Pressure Physics PAS and Fundación Ibercivis) launched the first lines of work for this initiative, funded with nearly 6 million euros by the #HorizonEurope programme to revolutionise Augmented Reality (AR) glasses.
As the partners responsible for the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), at Ibercivis we presented our strategy for integrating #citizenscience and the human perspective from the initial stages of technological development, defining the methodology for assessing the usability, ergonomic comfort and visual fatigue of AR glasses under real-world conditions of use (at home and in public spaces); establishing recruitment protocols to ensure the participation of a diverse range of citizens and developing the ideal ethical and data protection framework, whilst providing the infrastructure of our secure servers for the management and encryption of the data collected in strict compliance with the GDPR.
It has been a pleasure to begin working closely with the rest of the consortium to ensure that the European photonics of the future meets people’s real needs.
