JustSafe

Fair strategies for social adaptation to climate change

About the project

JustSafe is aligned with the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, taking a comprehensive, participatory approach to inclusive adaptation.

JUSTSAFE is a Horizon Europe project focused on climate change adaptation from a social justice and inclusion perspective. It looks at how the climate and digital transitions can better meet the needs of the most vulnerable and marginalised social groups, such as older people, children, women and girls in all their diversity, and people with disabilities. JUSTSAFE is aligned with the European Union’s Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and is funded under the HORIZON-MISS-2024-CLIMA-01 programme.

Project objectives

The project’s main aim is to strengthen the climate resilience of communities and local authorities by developing participatory strategies, tools and activities that involve vulnerable groups in designing solutions. To do so, JUSTSAFE combines co-creation processes, risk communication, capacity building, digital and green solutions, and pilot actions aimed at fairer, more inclusive climate adaptation.

The role of Ibercivis

In JustSafe, Fundación Ibercivis leads the work package on training and capacity building. Its main role is to develop educational materials, coordinate training activities (including serious games and simulators) and evaluate the impact of these actions on climate and digital literacy, especially among vulnerable groups. It also contributes to designing citizen participation and co-creation strategies.

Our activities

  • Developing training materials (courses, educational resources and digital content) tailored to diverse audiences, especially vulnerable groups.
  • Creating simulators and serious games to build skills in climate change adaptation and encourage active participation.
  • Organising demonstration exercises and in-person and online training sessions in pilot and replicating regions.
  • Evaluating the impact of the training, including surveys before and after the activities to measure improvements in climate and digital literacy.
  • Supporting the co-creation of participatory tools and methods, in collaboration with other consortium partners.
  • Contributing to citizen participation and co-design strategies (for example, by developing surveys, interviews and co-creation events).
