ABOUT THE PROJECT
OSIRIS-EU (Open Science inspiring Inclusive Research and Innovation towards Societal Impact in Europe) aims to move openness beyond a mere compliance requirement, turning it instead into the engine of a more inclusive, transparent research and innovation ecosystem, one that is genuinely connected to society’s needs.
The project explores how to transform European Open Science, today fragmented into isolated good practices, into a systemic model capable of generating measurable societal impact. To do so, it combines three levers: staff exchanges between universities, museums, foundations and companies; a European Digital Hub that openly documents processes, successes and failures as a «living diary» of scientific practice; and artificial intelligence (natural language processing, sentiment analysis) to monitor in real time how open knowledge is perceived and used.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
– Redefine how Open Science translates into measurable impact, developing an operational framework that connects its practices with scientific, social, economic and political outcomes.
– Create a European Digital Hub that functions as a living knowledge laboratory, interoperable with EOSC, where processes, successes and failures are openly documented.
– Train a new generation of change-makers through international, intersectoral mobility placements (1 to 12 months), directly tied to concrete research and innovation tasks.
– Generate robust, cross-cutting evidence on the benefits of Open Science through case studies, comparative analyses and policy briefs.
– Maximise the use and legacy of the results, ensuring the sustainability of the Hub and of the practices developed beyond the project’s lifetime.
IBERCIVIS’ ROLE
Ibercivis takes part as one of the consortium’s 28 partners, contributing its expertise as a European pioneer in citizen science and participatory Open Science. Its contribution is concentrated in Work Package 5 (Societal Engagement and Citizen Science), where it leads the task devoted to citizen science pilots, coordinating the connection between researchers, policymakers and citizens to operationalise inclusiveness, equality and co-creation across the whole consortium.

– Open documentation of the whole process on the OSIRIS-EU Digital Hub, in the form of engagement case studies.
– Preparation of the citizen science pilot reports (phases I and II), with methods, results and lessons learned for institutional uptake.
– Contribution of our expertise in inclusiveness, equality and accessibility to the design of the consortium’s citizen participation methodologies.
– Open documentation of the whole process on the OSIRIS-EU Digital Hub, in the form of engagement case studies.
– Preparation of the citizen science pilot reports (phases I and II), with methods, results and lessons learned for institutional uptake.
