OSIRIS
Open Science Inspiring Inclusive Research and Innovation towards Societal Impact in Europe
About the project
OSIRIS-EU (Open Science inspiring Inclusive Research and Innovation towards Societal Impact in Europe) aims to turn openness from a compliance requirement into the driving force behind research and innovation that is more inclusive, more transparent and more closely connected to the needs of society.
The project explores how to transform European Open Science, currently fragmented into isolated examples of good practice, into a systemic model that can deliver measurable societal impact. To do so, it combines three levers: staff exchanges between universities, museums, foundations and companies; a European Digital Hub that openly documents processes, successes and failures as a ‘living diary’ of scientific practice; and artificial intelligence (natural language processing, sentiment analysis) to monitor in real time how open knowledge is perceived and used.
Project objectives
- Redefine how Open Science translates into measurable impact, by developing an operational framework that links its practices to scientific, social, economic and policy outcomes.
- Create a European Digital Hub that works as a living knowledge lab, interoperable with the EOSC, where processes, successes and failures are documented openly.
- Train a new generation of change agents through international and intersectoral mobility stays (from 1 to 12 months), linked to specific research and innovation tasks.
- Build robust, cross-cutting evidence on the benefits of Open Science through case studies, comparative analyses and policy briefs.
- Maximise the uptake and legacy of the results, ensuring the sustainability of the Hub and of the practices developed beyond the lifetime of the project.
The role of Ibercivis
Ibercivis is one of the 28 partners in the consortium, bringing its experience as a European pioneer in citizen science and participatory open science. Its contribution centres on work package WP5 (Societal Engagement and Citizen Science), where it leads the task devoted to citizen science pilots, coordinating the connection between researchers, policymakers and citizens to put inclusiveness, equality and co-creation into practice across the whole consortium.
Our activities
- Design and implementation of citizen science pilots in which citizens co-create data, validate research results or help monitor the societal impact of the project.
- Open documentation of the whole process on the OSIRIS-EU Digital Hub, in the form of participation case studies.
- Preparation of the citizen science pilot reports (phases I and II), covering methods, results and lessons learnt for institutional adoption.
- Contributing our experience in inclusiveness, equality and accessibility to the design of the consortium’s citizen participation methodologies.
