Science in your Mobile

A multi-game mobile app to bring science closer to young people

About the project

Science in your Mobile was an initiative to bring science closer to young people through a smartphone app, available on the Play Store and App Store, featuring games based on different scientific fields.

  • Cell Spotting: analysing real images of a cell culture, taken with an inverted fluorescence microscope at BIFI, to work out the type of cell death from two parameters.
  • Mind Paths: measuring the distance between words based on each player’s conceptual reasoning, as they made their way from a starting word to a target word through a network of associated words.
  • Sun4All: analysing sunspots in solar images from the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Coimbra (Portugal) to help understand solar activity and the solar cycle.
  • Mobilab: taking measurements with the phone’s own sensors in different situations.

The role of Ibercivis

The project was conceived as part of the European project Socientize and developed by the team at the Institute for Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI) at the University of Zaragoza, in collaboration with Fundación Ibercivis. It was funded by FECYT.
