Decido
Participatory methods, cloud tools and data analysis for effective policymaking.
About the project
DECIDO provided storage capacity and processing power through the EGI infrastructure.
DECIDO’s mission was to show the impact of adopting participatory methods, cloud tools and data analysis for effective policymaking.
DECIDO acted as a bridge between the public sector, the citizen science community and the European Cloud Infrastructure (ECI), working directly with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
- The project tested the DECIDO solutions in four cities and regions in Europe:
- Forest fires in Kajaani
- Floods and social crises after a pandemic in Italy
- Power cuts in Greek municipalities, Greece
- Forest fire management and prevention in the region of Aragon, Spain.
Project objectives
The project had several goals: to help public authorities adopt data and cloud technologies to support evidence-based policies; to develop strategic management so that data feeds into evidence-based policymaking; to enable local stakeholders to take an active part in generating data; and, finally, to promote the sustained use of data analysis and cloud infrastructure in policymaking.
The role of Ibercivis
- The role of Fundación Ibercivis in DECIDO was to run the Aragon pilot activities. We held co-creation workshops to gather information and requirements from everyone with a stake in the project, and identified the following target groups:
- Affected citizens: people living in at-risk areas in Aragon.
- People who need to carry out controlled burns (for example, farmers).
- Firefighting services: to use the data to manage firefighting better.
- Local authorities: to use the information provided by the pilot.
- The general public: to know whether they are near an at-risk area and/or a fire.
Our activities
Fundación Ibercivis co-organised the project’s pilot activities in the autonomous community of Aragon (Spain) with Tecnalia (Basque Country). It had the support – as Ibercivis’s third parties – of the Government of Aragon and its public company Sarga.
Ibercivis developed tools and technologies for early disaster warning through citizen participation.
These tools were co-designed through citizen participation processes and with the emergency services involved. Once designed, they were made available to everyone on the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)
Ibercivis also takes an active part in communicating and disseminating the project’s progress and results.
