About the project

The DECIDO consortium brings together innovative public administrations, leading European ICT service providers and research institutions to create new solutions to complex problems.

The opportunities offered by digital technologies have not yet been fully exploited by public administrations. Problems such as migration, poverty and climate change facing today’s society are becoming increasingly complex for European governments, as there is no single best solution.

To address these challenges, data-driven policy making aims to make use of data sources, analytical techniques and processing power to provide policy makers with decision support, while engaging local communities in co-creation activities to support better targeted policies.

DECIDO will use the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) as a point of contact with the European Research Community. The seamless connection of open research data and public sector information will create optimal conditions for open innovation with high societal impact.

Characteristics

Type of project: European

Duration: 2021 – 2024

Knowledge areas: disaster early warning, citizen science, biodiversity, information technologies

Objectives

  • Support public authorities in evidence-based policy making.
  • Guarantee that data contribute to public policy making.
  • Ensure active involvement of local actors in data generation.
  • Evaluate the transformative impact of the project on disaster risk management as applied in the pilot areas.
  • Pursue sustainable use of data in policy making.

Ibercivis' role in the project

Ibercivis co-organises the pilot activities of the project in the autonomous community of Aragon (Spain) in collaboration with Tecnalia (Basque Country), and has the support of the Government of Aragon -as a third party of Ibercivis- and its company SARGA.

Ibercivis will develop tools and technologies for early warning treatment of disasters through citizen participation.

The co-design of these tools is carried out through citizen participation processes, as well as with the agents involved in emergencies. Once designed, these tools will be available to everyone through the EOSC and will be used to make informed decisions based on scientific evidence.

In addition, Ibercivis is actively involved in the communication and dissemination activities of the project and its results.

Methodologies and technologies used
